About
Belmont  Bespoke
Belmont Bespoke is built on a lifetime of hands‑on craftsmanship. My name is Michael Hughes, and my path into joinery started long before I ever picked up a chisel professionally. I grew up in France learning carpentry from my father, a former boatbuilder who taught me the value of accuracy, patience and respect for materials. Those early years shaped everything I do today, the belief that good work is quiet, precise and built to last.

My journey
I began my formal apprenticeship in France, working side‑by‑side with my father and learning traditional techniques the slow, proper way. After moving to the UK, I spent years working on property restoration and heritage projects, from the Worthing Dome to smaller listed residential homes. These projects demanded sensitivity, problem‑solving and an understanding of how to blend new work into old architecture without disturbing its character.
Over time, I realised the part of the job I loved most was the fitted furniture: the precision, the geometry, the challenge of making something that fits perfectly into a space that rarely plays fair. That focus eventually became my craft.
A few years ago, I returned to Southern France to renovate old properties once again, reconnecting with the roots of my training and the slower, detail‑driven approach that shaped me. Since returning to the UK, I’ve dedicated myself fully to designing and building high‑end bespoke fitted furniture for homes across London.

What I do now
I design, build and install every project myself, no handovers, no subcontracting, just one person responsible for the work from the first sketch to the final hinge adjustment. Clients come to me because they want someone who cares about the details and takes pride in getting things right.
My work includes:
-
bespoke wardrobes and dressing rooms
-
fitted alcove units and bookcases
-
kitchens in birch ply, oak veneer and painted finishes
-
loft and awkward‑space solutions
-
full room storage and layout transformations
Everything is made to measure, built with care, and designed to feel like it belongs in the home.
